Multi-Tenant Isolation Strategy
Chose a single-database, tenant-scoped model with a clean path to database-per-tenant for large or regulated customers.
Context: a SaaS serving many companies needed strict data separation without exploding operational cost. Decision: a shared database with enforced tenant scoping (global scopes + row-level guards), promoting heavy or regulated tenants to isolated databases when justified. Trade-off: a little more app-layer discipline in exchange for far simpler ops, cheaper infra, and easy cross-tenant analytics.

What it does
- Tenant scoping enforced at the ORM layer so no query can leak across tenants.
- Hybrid model — shared DB by default, dedicated DB for large / regulated tenants.
- Per-tenant feature flags, usage limits and billing.
